Non emergency calls

The Government has introduced, in associaiton with ACPO, a non emergency phone number, it costs just 15 pence per call from a landline or mobile, regardless of how long you are on the phone. The number is 101 and is a NEW number.
To report a stolen car, damage to your property, suspecting drug dealing, minor car collisions, to give Police information about local crime or any other information which doesn’t require an immediate reaction from the emergency services.
Dialling 101 does not put you through to a call centre, this system uses gps and will connect you to the nearest Police station to you at the time, you will speak to a Police officer or staff at the Police station who will be able to help you. If you are om a boundary of two Police forces then you will be given a choice.
This is part of a move to make the Police more accessible and to prevent non-emergency calls going to 999.
